I use a SB to control the height of a vertical antenna which is located about 10 meters from the ham shack. I have a USB connection to the SB via one of those USB to CAT5 extenders (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FHTCH68/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This works fine to to send and receive data but it fails when I attempt to upload compiled code, receiving the following error "Message from component IMTMemtool:Can't connect to target." I tried fiddling with a few of the Memtool settings, but to no avail. I'm looking for guidance from anybody who has successfully uploaded using this, or a similar extender.

Cool application. Not sure anyone has tried this. Presumably the USB-Cat5E link will intercept the JTAG DAS driver? We will get one and try it. Have you tried a 10 metre USB cable?

That's a thought. I just tried a 5 meter active usb extension cable which worked just fine. Now I just need to buy a 10 meter version and see if I can snake it through the buried conduit. Should work. If you're interested in the antenna, here's a link: www.qrz.com/db/K6DHL

I just noticed that when the board is first connected to the extender, the red reset led flashes endlessly. Should be a clue.

This usually means that the USB cable is not supplying enough current to run the Shieldbuddy.

You could supply 6V power through the jack socket (move the jumper first) and still use the USB for the serial connection.

Supplying an external 9 volts resolved the issue with the Amazon Basics active extender and I can now upload and remotely reset the board. It did not, however, fix the problem with the usb/cat5 extender. But I'm a happy camper. All I need to do is replace the cat5 run with the active usb extender, since the remote SB is already running off of externally supplied 9 volts, and I should be good to go. Thanks for the assistance.
